I Will Never...

There are a lot of words I have had to eat since I have had kids. I was one of those judgmental non-parents who would do OH So Much Better when I had children. I had a whole list of things I would NEVER do with my children, before having them. Just to name a few, here are some of the things that were on it:
-I will never let my children sleep in bed with me
-I will never let my children watch TV
-I will never let my children have a lunch of Doritos and cheese crackers
-I will never let my children eat things off of the floor
-I will never yell at my children (who was I kidding?)

Now that I have had children I have had to amend that list, in fact it is practically non-existent. It now reads:
-I will never let my children sleep in bed with me until they are 10 years old (this may have to be amended again...)
-I will never let my children watch 8 consecutive hours of TV at a time
-I will never let my children have a lunch of Doritos and cheese crackers without a tall glass of milk to go with it
-I will never let my children eat something off of the floor that isn't food (do bugs count as fiber?)
And I just dropped the never yell at my kids thing entirely, that is just unrealistic.

In addition, there are things I NEVER would have done with Austin, that with poor little Aubrey I don't hesitate doing. Like give her the middle of Oreo cookies. And icing and gravy. And let her crawl on the ground outside. And pop a pacifier back in her mouth after it has touched the ground without first boiling it in hot water. And let her leave the house with a dirty face and socks that don't match. OK, I am still uptight enough that her socks usually match, but she has gone out without one as I can't find it on my way out the door. Or I have taken her out with her PJ's still on. I guess my mom was right, things are different with the second child. It is not that I love her any less, obviously, just that I am a bit more relaxed and have a bit less time to sweat the small things. If she eats a few bugs along the way, I am sure she will still turn out OK.

Good to see though that you are sticking to your biggest "I will never ..." -- I will never let my children wear Yankee attire. We all know that is the most important one anyway!! I think you are doing a great job with both of them. Go Sox!
