Happy Girl

I love it when Aubrey smiles. She can light up a room and melt my heart at the same time. What a sweet little girl.

Cranky Girl

My girl is even cute when she is cranky, which isn't very often. But when she is, she is very very cranky.

Happy Easter

Austin was so excited to color Easter eggs, he must have asked 100 times yesterday "when do we get to dye the eggs?" He was so patient and relieved when we finally got to it last night. He had fun drawing on them and putting them in as many different colors as he could. He made one for mommy, one for Aubrey and several for daddy, and even one for the Red Sox.
Here is Aubrey watching Austin color the Easter eggs.

Austin got up this morning and found that the Easter Bunny had left the empty egg cartons by the bedroom door, with a 'clue' telling him where to find his and Aubrey's basket. We had so much fun watching him find the eggs and the clues that led to...

The Easter Basket. That silly Bunny left it in the dryer!

Austin and Aubrey with their Easter Basket.

Happy Easter everyone!

The Best Big Brother

On the way home from school one day recently Austin told his sister that she is beeeeuuuteeeful, and that he loved her. I had to choke back the tears and wipe my eyes quickly before I ran off the road. I told him that I hope he always tells her how beautiful she is, and that it will be really important for her to hear as she gets older. He said probably it would make her feel good. I said he is probably right.

I Will Never...

There are a lot of words I have had to eat since I have had kids. I was one of those judgmental non-parents who would do OH So Much Better when I had children. I had a whole list of things I would NEVER do with my children, before having them. Just to name a few, here are some of the things that were on it:
-I will never let my children sleep in bed with me
-I will never let my children watch TV
-I will never let my children have a lunch of Doritos and cheese crackers
-I will never let my children eat things off of the floor
-I will never yell at my children (who was I kidding?)

Now that I have had children I have had to amend that list, in fact it is practically non-existent. It now reads:
-I will never let my children sleep in bed with me until they are 10 years old (this may have to be amended again...)
-I will never let my children watch 8 consecutive hours of TV at a time
-I will never let my children have a lunch of Doritos and cheese crackers without a tall glass of milk to go with it
-I will never let my children eat something off of the floor that isn't food (do bugs count as fiber?)
And I just dropped the never yell at my kids thing entirely, that is just unrealistic.

In addition, there are things I NEVER would have done with Austin, that with poor little Aubrey I don't hesitate doing. Like give her the middle of Oreo cookies. And icing and gravy. And let her crawl on the ground outside. And pop a pacifier back in her mouth after it has touched the ground without first boiling it in hot water. And let her leave the house with a dirty face and socks that don't match. OK, I am still uptight enough that her socks usually match, but she has gone out without one as I can't find it on my way out the door. Or I have taken her out with her PJ's still on. I guess my mom was right, things are different with the second child. It is not that I love her any less, obviously, just that I am a bit more relaxed and have a bit less time to sweat the small things. If she eats a few bugs along the way, I am sure she will still turn out OK.

My Little Superhero

I had to kill a spider the other day, it was in my house so it was fair game. Actually I almost walked into it as it was swinging down from the ceiling. To say I screamed like a little girl is beside the point. Austin asked me why God makes spiders. So we had this whole philosophical discussion about how every creature has a purpose and is important in the circle of life, (except when said creature is in my house, then like I said, it is fair game), and other really insightful stuff I was surprised I could muster before 8am. He then told me that he hopes that he will get bit by a spider. I was a little surprised and asked him why (my turn for this question), he said because he would like to have webs inside him like Spiderman. I think we need to cut down on the TV.

Another Masterpiece

Austin created another masterpiece, I am thinking about opening a gallery just for his works of art. Because I know his creations would make us millions. I know I would buy them...

Honesty

We were at the park yesterday and Austin and his little friend were watching a couple of guys playing basketball. They were mesmerized and liked to cheer for them. I asked Austin if he liked watching them make baskets, to which Austin replied loudly "They sure miss a lot!" So much for making new friends at the park.

Sliding

Aubrey's first trip down the slide, I think she enjoyed it. She had her big brother to take care of her, so she felt pretty safe.

Why is it...?

-that every time I change the channel (either the TV or radio), I catch the tail end of something I really wanted to watch/listen to? Why can't I ever catch it at the beginning?

-that Austin can remember things from 2 years ago but when I ask him what he did in school today he says he can't remember? On the same note, why is it that Brian can remember box scores of Red Sox games from 20 years ago, but can't remember something I told him yesterday? Or this morning for that matter?

-that Aubrey is only a contortionist when she is getting her diaper changed?

-that it takes 2 weeks to lose 5 pounds but only takes one cookie to gain it back?

-that my toilets only back up when we have house guests and we have to turn the water off and call the plumber to come fix them?

-that we have nothing to do all year and then all of a sudden there are three events to do in the same night?

-that no matter how much space we have in the house there is no more room to put anything?

-that my fridge bit the dust 2 months after the warranty ran out?

-that diaper blowouts only occur in public when I only have one wipe and no change of clothes with me?

Just wondering...

Bath Time

Too cute of a picture not to share. This was the first time I gave Aubrey a bath in the sink, I don't know why I didn't do it earlier. Much easier!

(You just gotta love the 70's retro green sink)
